Well, there is not much to do now except drink the beers while they are cold. The Hurricane is still a category 4 and has just reached the south coast of Jamaica. The “experts” say it will take 8 to 12 hours to pass the coast of Jamaica and then a few more hours to Grand Cayman. So tomorrow morning should be fun! The good news is it looks like it is going to be going south of us. Dean will still blow everything off us and the rainfall maximum is expected to be about 12 inches. The sea surges on the other hand can be up to 30 feet or over – that could wash over the whole island.

There is a great sense of camaraderie here. Everyone is wishing each other well. The usually quiet Jamaican lady who sells the beers at “Ital Spot” – the local hangout, told me to be safe. I assured her that I would and she gave me a big smile. I also bought a few more cold ones.

We now have a 5pm curfew. The Hurricane shelters were open from 1pm and are now full. Who knows when the power is going to be going off. We will batten down the hatches when it gets dark – (that is to close all our windows and remove the mosquito screens); and then we wait some more.

The winds have picked up and the sea is looking rougher, but other than that all is good. This is my last entry until the power comes back on; Monday evening? Most probably Tuesday or Wednesday. Until then be safe and keep smiling 🙂
